How to Layer your Skincare Products

Hi Guys,

I recently had a poll on my Instastories to see if you were interested in reading a step by step how to on how to layer you skincare. Pretty much all of you said yes, therefore here I am telling you all about it. Please keep in mind that this is just how the process goes, in the end you decide how you want to apply your skincare, because only you know what works best with your skin. So without further ado, let’s begin.

Cheers!

Step 1

Cleanser

You need a clean canvas to start with. Here you wash you face with the cleanser of your choice and remove all the impurities and makeup off your face.

Step 2

Toner

A lot of people like to skip this step in their skincare routine because they are under the assumption that they are too harsh and will irritate the skin. A toner will remove any residue or makeup left behind that the cleanser didn’t fully remove, it also balances your skins PH. Fortunately, there are toners for different skin types and skin concerns.

Step 3

Spot Treatment

If you have acne prone skin or want to target a specific area in your face, now is the time to take care of it.

Step 4

Serum

There are so many serums in the market, with so many ingredients that your selection will come down to your specific needs. The most common are vitamin C and antiaging serums, but adding a serum to your routine is essential. This is the purest and strongest care shot that your skin will be receiving.

Step 5

Eye Cream

The use of eye cream is vital after your 20’s. It helps maintain the elasticity and thickness of the skin around your eye. By doing this you keep wrinkles and dryness at bay. It is recommended that while in the sun you utilize sunglasses to protect your eye area against UV damage.

Step 6

Moisturizer

Again, depending on your skin type this will too vary. A Key ingredient to look for in a moisturizer is Hyaluronic Acid. What is HA you might ask. Well, it’s a carbohydrate molecule that is already in our bodies. The same provides lubrication to our connective tissues, meaning joints and skin. As we age, our skin doesn’t hold onto moisture the way it did once before that’s why it’s so important to incorporate it into our routine.

Step 7

Oil

This step is based on personal preference because some people like to use oil in their routines and others don’t. I always utilize them in mine because I have dry skin. Oily skin peeps listen up, while you might think that using oil in your routine will just produce more oil, that’s a myth. If the skin is stripped of its natural oils, it will go into overproduction mode. Adding oil to your routine will help balance your skin.

Extra Info:

SPF is extremely important to add to your morning routine once you’ve applied your moisturizer and/or oil. Protecting your face from sun damage is key for healthy skin.

Essences are all the rave right now. An essence is a lightweight fluid; comparable to water, that provides the skin with antioxidants, soothing agents and repairing ingredients. This step comes after your toner and it basically prepares your skin for serums and better absorption. Furthermore, I’ve found that adding this step in my routine has given me great results and I also get to see my skincare used to its fullest potential.
